Mommy's Got a Drinking Buddy Next Decade

According to a new study printed in Time magazine, it appears as though Babyluv will be sporting a goth attitude and will most likely indulge in drinking during her teen years.

In a nutshell, the research states that internationally adopted children are twice as likely to be diagnosed with an emotional or behavioral problem.

"Foreign adoptees are far more likely to internalize their problems, suffering more commonly from depression or separation anxiety disorders."

The study suggests that the problems could be due to genetics or poor perinatal care. "The deleterious effects may quite possibly have come before the adoption ever took place," study author, psychologist Margaret Keyes points out.

Whatevs.

Bottom line is that I won't have to hide the vodka in my water bottle next decade.

Interesting. NPR's take on the same study was not quite as scary: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=90184184

It also said that we APs are superior in many ways (we already knew this of course):

"In fact ... adopting parents are a special breed: highly motivated, better educated and better off financially than parents who do not adopt. Keyes adds that adopting parents were also more likely to get help from mental health professionals for their adopted child when behavioral problems arose."

Well, seeing the mess NON adopted kids seem to be getting themselves into, I think the whole lot of em are going to hell in a hand basket. ;-P

But seriously, I've also heard how swell APs are and (generally speaking) better aware and prepared to seek help for their kids if the need arises.

Hahaha. I'm left wondering when one should hide the vodka... When do kids start thinking, "I might want to try a sip of that..." Regardless of adopted/birthday/step/god-child status?
